Having been established in 2006, this year the Scoliosis SOS Clinic celebrates 20 years of helping people from all over the world with their spinal health.
Where did it all begin?
Erika Maude was diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of 11, and was fitted with a Boston brace between 13-15 years old, which failed to prevent the progression of her curve. After being offered spinal fusion surgery for her 42-degree curve, Erika opted for non-surgical management approaches instead. Around this time 20 years ago, Erika had recently completed an intensive course of exercise-based treatments in Spain, and following its success, decided to bring this type of non-surgical scoliosis treatment approach to the UK – and thus Scoliosis SOS Clinic was born!

Originally located in Suffolk as the first non-surgical scoliosis clinic in the UK, Scoliosis SOS relocated to London in 2009, to accommodate to the high number of patients seeking the scoliotic care that Erika had to travel to Europe for. It started with just the Schroth Method alone, but this was eventually adapted and began to incorporate techniques from a range of non-surgical scoliosis management approaches to create a gold standard of treatment for our patients, which is now known as the ScolioGold Method. This has since expanded to other UK locations: Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, and Kingston – and people from all over the world travel to the UK or seek our treatment virtually in order to receive our world-class care.
What is incorporated into the ScolioGold Method?
The ScolioGold Method is a multi-faceted approach to non-surgical scoliotic care and is continually monitored and developed to reflect the advances in the non-surgical field. Because of this, techniques from all over the world are incorporated, including:
- Schroth Method (Germany)
- Rigo-Schroth Method (Spain)
- SEAS Method (Italy)
- FITS Method (Poland)
- PNF (USA)
- Taping (Japan)
- Dry Needling (USA)
- Myofascial Release (USA)
- Trigger Point Therapy (USA)
- Orthopaedic Medicine (USA)
- Pilates (Germany)
- Spiral Stabilisation (Czech Republic)

So what has Scoliosis SOS achieved in these 20 years?
