Exploring Innovation: Scoliosis SOS Presents at the DIERS International Training Academy 2025

From 10th–13th April 2025, members of the Scoliosis SOS team had the pleasure of attending the inaugural DIERS International Training Academy in Wiesbaden, Germany.  Hosted by DIERS Biomedical Solutions, this exciting event brought together healthcare professionals from around the world to exchange knowledge, develop clinical skills, and explore the full capabilities of the DIERS Formetric.

The event marked DIERS’ first-ever international training course of its kind and was specifically tailored to support two types of attendees: those who already use DIERS equipment in their clinical settings and wanted to deepen their understanding, and those interested in implementing the technology into their practice.

How did our Scoliosis SOS Team get involved?

Representing the Scoliosis SOS Clinic, Anna and I were proud to participate in this international forum, joining clinicians from a wide range of backgrounds and countries.  It was an honour to present on behalf of our clinic, sharing how we use the Formetric system in our scoliosis treatment programmes.  My presentation focused on clinical case studies demonstrating the scanner’s value in monitoring scoliosis progression, assisting diagnosis, and increasing patients’ body awareness.

How do we use Formetric at our clinic?

Formetric 4D scanning technology plays an integral role at Scoliosis SOS.  For further information on how we use this please follow this link: https://www.scoliosissos.com/blog/formetric-scoliosis-measurement.

This radiation-free surface topography system allows for safe, repeatable, and highly detailed assessments of the spine.  Our patients benefit from objective data on posture, alignment, and movement — which not only informs our personalised ScolioGold treatment plans, but also helps patients better visualise their condition and track progress over time.

What’s new with the system & what did we learn?

Attending this event provided us with the opportunity to enhance our technical understanding of the scanner’s capabilities.  Notably, we gained new insights into optimising scan accuracy and improving scan protocols, which will directly support our efforts to train and upskill our ScolioGold therapists back in the UK.

A key takeaway from the Academy was the importance of leveraging the PedoScan and Gait Analysis modules, in addition to standard spine imaging.  These tools allow for a more holistic understanding of each patient’s biomechanics, highlighting the impact of spinal deformities on overall posture and movement patterns.  We are excited to bring this broader approach into our clinic to offer even more comprehensive assessments.

It was also encouraging to learn that the use of Formetric technology is expanding within the NHS, with four scanners currently in use across the UK and plans for further adoption.  This is a significant step toward reducing young patients’ exposure to diagnostic radiation while also enabling clinicians to perform more frequent and detailed posture assessments.

Opportunity to Network

Beyond the educational content, the Training Academy also provided a valuable platform for international collaboration and knowledge sharing.  It was fantastic to connect with like-minded professionals and introduce the work we do at Scoliosis SOS to a global audience.  We are proud to be at the forefront of integrating cutting-edge technology into non-surgical scoliosis treatment.

We look forward to applying what we’ve learned and continuing to use the Formetric 4D system to deliver the best possible outcomes for our patients.

How can you benefit?

Are you interested in having a radiation-free Formetric back scan?  These are an excellent way to see your spinal alignment in 4-dimensions with no harmful side-effects like x-rays.  For new patients this is included in our Initial Consultation appointment and for our existing patients we offer scans and measures as part of our continuing care Check-up appointments.  Call Us for more information and to get your Formetric scan booked in.
